I am passionate about being a clear and engaging educator; I aim to give students a firm grasp of the most important philosophical ideas. I started teaching in 2016 as a math teacher at Hagia Sophia Classical Academy, and I have loved teaching ever since.
I center my class sessions primarily around cases and examples, which I use to explain views and draw out problems for them. About a third of my classes are Socratic Seminar-style discussions; in these sessions, I work with my students to develop arguments for/objections to certain philosophical views by asking questions, only interrupting to clear up my students' misunderstandings.
I develop handouts for nearly every class session. Some sample handouts are available at the following links:
a pair of handouts on utilitarianism/consequentialism and objections to utilitarianism/consequentialism
a handout from a talk of mine, aimed at undergraduates, about discrete time and explanation;
a handout for a class on the problem of evil
accompanying handout on the Paradox of the Stone and other arguments
a handout on the problem of induction (accompanies Hume's Sceptical Doubts Concerning the Operations of the Understanding [Enquiry 4])
